West Midlands Fire Service Case Study | Agile

Case Study

West Midlands Fire Service

West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) wanted a clearer understanding of its digital, data and technology capabilities, operational challenges and the barriers preventing it from fully realising the value of its data. Agile was engaged to assess its current landscape and provide a practical roadmap for transformation that would improve efficiency, resilience and long term scalability.

The Challenge

WMFS faced challenges including fragmented systems, inconsistent governance and manual workarounds that limited efficiency, insight and scalability. The organisation needed to strengthen data ownership, improve integration across systems, enhance information management practices and increase data literacy across teams. There was also a need to evolve analytics from reactive reporting towards more strategic, evidence based decision making.

  • Data maturity assessment across six core capability areas
  • Cross functional workshops and stakeholder engagement
  • Policy and governance reviews
  • Current state assessment of data, technology and operating models
  • Data literacy sessions with the Senior Leadership Team
  • Identification of risks, gaps and improvement opportunities
  • Development of a prioritised transformation roadmap

The Outcome

The engagement provided WMFS with a comprehensive understanding of its current capabilities and a clear plan for improvement. Agile identified opportunities to strengthen governance, data quality, integration and analytics while highlighting practical quick wins to reduce spreadsheet reliance and improve access to trusted information.

The assessment also delivered a future integration blueprint, increased leadership understanding of their role in data and AI transformation and created alignment around the actions needed to build a more resilient, data driven organisation.

Looking Ahead

With a prioritised roadmap and stronger understanding of its data maturity, WMFS is now better positioned to modernise its data landscape, improve decision making and support long term operational effectiveness through trusted, accessible and well governed data.
